[ARCHIVED] Cedar Falls 2020 Census Update

As the 2020 Census continues, the City of Cedar Falls would like to remind the community of the importance of a complete count in Black Hawk County.

The Census takes place every 10 years and is a count of each person in the United States by the United States Census Bureau. It is critical for determining the distribution of more than 675 billion dollars in federal funding for vital programs and services in education, housing, health care, and more. Data from the Census also determines how many seats Iowa is allocated at the House of Representatives.

As of June 15, 2020, the self-response rate for Cedar Falls was 70.6 percent. This is above the state average; however, the goal of the census is 100 percent so it remains important for citizens to complete their form if they have not done so. This year, the census can be filled out via mail, online, or phone.

About the Census

Households received their Census forms by mail in mid-March. Each form contains seven questions. The U.S. Census Bureau is required by law to use Census information strictly for general statistics. Each individual in the household is counted separately regardless of age. College students who are away from home should count themselves at the on-or-off campus residence where they live and sleep most of the time. Citizens of foreign countries who are living in the United States should be counted in the U.S residence where they live and sleep most of the time.
